SkaGeN is a collective theatre company that offers emotion-based experiences to as wide an audience as possible. Accessible ways of exploring art and experimenting with form are central to their vision. By integrating a variety of media like video, comic strips, music, puppets and locations, SkaGeN aims to broaden the theatre scene and communicate new types of imagery to both young and old. By developing new, contemporary forms, SkaGeN aims to give shape to the complexity of the world around us and to portray this world.
SkaGeN works as a collective. By standing on stage as a steady group of people, SkaGeN tries to invoke a feeling of solidarity with the audience. In this sense, the company supports the creation of communities, however small-scale they may be.
SkaGeN’s members are Valentijn Dhaenens, Korneel Hamers, Mathijs Scheepers and Clara van den Broek. They all graduated from the former Dora van der Groen actors’ course in Antwerp in 2000. In the same year, they founded their collective with Yves Degryse and Bruno Vanden Broecke, who both left for pastures new in 2009.
