Theater Tol is an Antwerp theatre company which consists primarily of musicians, dance-makers and theatre-makers, each of whom make their own specific contribution to the collective. Tol uses images, performance and music, but rarely words. In addition to the historical and social context, the physical possibilities of a location are also sources of inspiration in the creation of a production: an old factory site, a park, a beach or a riverbank. During the summer, Theater Tol plays in the open air, but in the winter its performances are more site-specific. The company tries to incorporate as many elements of the specific location as possible into the performance.

Theater Tol regularly works with other companies or artists. They have recently performed in Belgium, the Netherlands, Spain, Germany, Poland, Austria, Norway, Greece, Costa Rica, Israel and India. In 2010 they will be performing in Canada.

Theater Tol has an eye for detail and poetry and communicates wordlessly by means of an original and unusual visual language. During the performances, the audience is confronted with itself, and also fairytales and objects referring to the story of Alice in Wonderland: flying bicycles, angels with fireworks, a bath with a fountain, flashing lights...

In addition to its own creations, Theater Tol also invests in the upcoming talent of a new generation by means of interdisciplinary workshops. Young artists are challenged to come up with short improvisations on location. This refreshing approach generates a whole range of new possibilities.
