Rosas is the ensemble of dancers, as well as the production and marketing organisation that revolves around the dancer and choreographer Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker. Her 1982 debut Fase, four movements to the music of Steve Reich, immediately caught the eye of the international dance scene. Together with her company of dancers, she has created an impressive series of choreographic works over the last 27 years

Rosas is essentially about dance that is pure expression using movements in space and time. The relationship between movement and music is central. A number of its productions have explored the relationship between dance and words, and recent productions have often been joint ventures with artists.

Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker has opted for an organisational model where dancers remain with the company for a long period, thus enabling each one to follow an intense individual path. Larger company productions have the entire core team of dancers on stage. Alongside these are smaller performances in which De Keersmaeker herself dances. As well as creating new productions, Rosas continues to present the repertoire it has built up, thus handing down its own artistic history to new generations of both audiences and dancers.

Rosas has a strong international reputation and plays the classic modern dance venues both in Europe and further afield. In addition, maintaining a presence in their home country remains a priority. As well as having worked in partnership with the large international cultural establishments for many years, Rosas also deliberately chooses to tour smaller venues.

Rosas takes art education very seriously and has spent a lot of time and energy over the past few years on educational and participatory projects. These efforts will be further increased in years to come.

Rosas is an open house, sharing its infrastructure not only with P.A.R.T.S., but also with the contemporary music ensemble Ictus, WorkSpaceBrussels, the Summer Studios’ summer guests and the numerous companies that rehearse in their studios. In-house management, communication and administrative know-how are also used for guest projects that are developed in the slipstream of De Keersmaeker’s artistic journey. Thus the site on the Van Volxemlaan in Vorst has turned into the place for both young and established talent to meet and exchange ideas, with new relationships enriching both parties.
