Lapzus creates dance theatre for a young audience. The company was founded by Frauke Depreitere and Filip Bilsen at the end of 2008. They met one another as performers with the youth section of fABULEUS in Leuven. They were the first to move on and set to work as producers. Together with author Greetje Bilsen (Filip’s sister) they created Mijn benen zijn al lang, maar de wereld staat op stelten (2000) which immediately put them on the map: an uninhibited mixture of language and movement, of authenticity and kitsch and an almost reckless performance or dance style. This was then followed by Alles in Toranje (2002). The trio continued their quest for the fusion of dance and language in the poetry project Terug naar huid, based on the collection of the same name by Greetje.
Following the unexpected death of Greetje Bilsen at the beginning of 2005, Filip Bilsen and Frauke Depreitere continued on their common path. In 2006, they created César, mijn broer is een paard at fABULEUS, together with Wanda Eyckerman, Jeroen Lenaerts and Sophie Beyne.
Since fABULEUS explicitly presents itself as an organisation for young, fledgling professionals, Frauke and Filip decided it was time to go their own way and hence Lapzus came into being. Lapzus’ first creation was Hierna komt het (2010), a visual story about impetuosity and silence, about never-ending parties, love and the world which always seeps in again.
