De Bovenkamer is a recently founded company that acts as a platform where young musicians, dancers, theatre-makers and artists can experiment with the fusion of art forms.

Orphelie in de Bovenkamer is De Bovenkamer’s first production, and is an opera for children of nine and older. The music and the libretto emerge simultaneously from the dramaturgy in the course of the creative process. The theatre-maker and musician Brick de Bois was invited to write the libretto. He is also responsible for directing. The music is by Axelle Kennes, the company’s house composer. Her music has a contemporary atonal sound as well as moments of simplicity.
