Travelogue: Mapping Performing Arts Mobility - website launched

On October 6th, the SPACE network presented the results of the pilot project it has been running since 2009. This conference was realised in the framework of and in collaboration with the IETM plenary meeting in Krakow. A part of this conference was dedicated to Travelogue. Both the Travelogue publication (including poster) and the website were presented. The presentation can be downloaded here and a brief summary can be found below.

Steeds meer Vlaamse kunstenaars vinden hun weg naar het buitenland. En meer dan ooit vinden ook buitenlandse makers in Vlaanderen en Brussel een vruchtbare uitvalsbasis om hun eigen werk te maken en te tonen. Tegelijk is de vraag zeer pertinent wat de verschillende beleidsniveaus én de sector zelf kunnen doen om de internationale dimensie van de artistieke praktijk nog sterker te dynamiseren. Welke elementen zijn de basis van een duurzaam internationaal cultuurbeleid? Hoe kan het bestaande instrumentarium hiertoe aangewend of aangevuld worden? Deze vragen staan centraal in de publicatie Joining the Dots, bouwstenen voor een duurzaam internationaal kunstenbeleid, die op 15 februari uitkomt. De publicatie is een initiatief van de vier kunstensteunpunten, het Vlaams Fonds voor de Letteren en het Vlaams Audiovisueel Fonds en is een vervolg op de gelijknamige conferentie die eind oktober plaatsvond in BOZAR.

Slow Boat #2

Kaaitheater, VTi and Imagine 2020 host the second Slow Boat Conference in Brussels on Friday 26 November 2010. The first Slow Boat conference was held in London in June 2009, organised by the Artsadmin production company and the British Council. At this Brussels conference we want to build on the results of London and relate the issues to the artistic situation in Belgium. How are we to build up an international arts practice when our horizon is set by a socio-ecological crisis? This is our concern.

Among the questions we shall be raising are:

How can we genuinely reduce the ecological footprint of all our travels and tours? Time is money, but quicker journeys usually result in higher CO2 emissions. Is slowing down an option, and what would it yield? Would better and more efficient cooperation and networking be a way of bringing down CO2 emissions?

Joining the dots | Conference on sustainable international arts policies

BOZAR, Brussels - 25-26 October, 2010

On October 25-26th, different supporting institutions for the arts in Flanders organized a two-day conference on sustainable international arts policies in the context of the Belgian EU presidency.

The intention was

• to map international artistic practice in all its diversity;

• to shed more light on the main obstacles to working internationally;

• to put forward a number of tools and recommendations towards future-oriented and sustainable international arts policies on different government levels (municipal, regional/national, EU)

Res/Ref 2009

Kunstenfestivaldesarts en VTi organiseerden dit jaar voor de vierde maal Res/Ref. In samenwerking met Bains::Connective en Advanced Performance Training werden een aantal kunstenaars en kunstcritici uit binnen- en buitenland uitgenodigd die het festival van heel nabij konden volgen. Jonge artiesten en critici uit alle hoeken van de wereld, die samen met hun Belgische collega's festivalvoorstellingen bezochten en met elkaar in gesprek gingen. Tien dagen lang doken ze de theaterzaal of tentoonstellingsruimte in, en namen hun observaties, bedenkingen en bezwaren mee naar de discussietafel.

Interreg conference

On November 27th and 28th, VTi, La Bellone, ONDA and the partners of the NEXT Festival organized a conference on the role of arts and culture in interregional cooperation at Buda arts centre. The full programme can be consulted here.
